Treatments for pain relief and relaxation

Tailored treatments

I firmly believe in tailored, personalised bodywork. At your appointment we’ll discuss how you’d like to feel after the treatment, and then I’ll mix and match techniques to get you the best result I can. So you don’t need to know if you want Swedish massage, myofascial release or deep tissue, you just need to know if you’d like to feel more grounded, or if you’d like your shoulder to hurt less.

As some people have a clear preference for myofascial release or massage, I offer booking for both. Book for the technique that most resonates with you, and we’ll discuss your treatment plan at your appointment. If you’re coming for pain relief, do note that it will usually take 3-6 sessions, ideally 1-2 weeks apart, to see lasting results. Prices are £42/30 minutes, £60/60 minutes, £70/75 minutes, £85/90 minutes.

Techniques I use

Myofascial Release

Myofascial release is a hands-on therapy for pain and stress, somewhat like massage. It’s like massage in that it works to relax and realign the muscles and fascia (connective tissue) and calm the nervous system. It’s different in that my hands move very slowly with your tissues, rather than gliding over them using oil. This makes it a very “listening” technique, affecting the body by staying intensely in sync with the tissues, rather than by using intensely strong pressure.

Myofascial release can be effective for stress relief and many chronic pain conditions including back pain, TMJ and migraine. It’s also generally intensely relaxing to receive, and so can be an effective therapy for chronic stress held in the body.

Swedish and Deep Tissue Massage

I offer tailored massages blending techniques from Swedish, deep tissue, myofascial release and trigger point therapy.

Massage can be effective for muscle pain and tension, and for promoting relaxation and wellbeing. By mixing and matching different techniques, we can create soporific massages, massages that leave you feeling energised, or anything in between. If you’re coming for pain relief, the appointment can be more “clinical” in style, including postural assessments and assisted stretching.

Pregnancy Massage

Pregnancy massage aims to deliver the same results as any massage, but it’s adapted to be safe and comfortable in pregnancy. This means you’ll sidelying or semi-reclined, supported by specialist bolsters, rather than on your front and back. I am also trained in techniques to relieve pregnancy-related issues, such as hip pain and carpal tunnel syndrome. Pregnancy massage is safe right through the pregnancy, from conception to birth.
